The Internet Is Banding Together To Save Betty White From 2016

2016. What a time to be alive. Or dead–as the case has been for an unfortunate number of celebrities this year. This 12-month-long shitshow, among other travesties, has certainly taken its toll on the famous person population; this year we lost pop icons like Prince, David Bowie, and George Michael, thespian Alan Rickman, Gene Wilder, Florence Henderson, George Michael, and, most recently, Carrie Fisher.

But 2016 hasn’t managed to steal one ray of light from our lives just yet: at 94, America’s Sweetheart and forever Golden Girl, Betty White, is still alive and kicking. And we plan to keep it that way–at least until the clock strikes 2017.

Demetrios Hyskos is the man behind the internet crusade to “protect Betty White from 2016,” a cause for which he created an entire Go Fund Me campaign. If he raised $2000, he promised to devote the money to safeguard White from any potential harm, traveling to her home (or wherever else she is) and generally just keeping her “safe.”

Or, barring that, he’ll donate the money to a local Spartanburg, South Carolina youth theatre group.

And since (obviously) the Internet is very concerned with preserving the iconic comedienne, the campaign has already surpassed its goal and raised nearly $3000 in the day since it launched. Unfortunately, some concerned Twitter users suffered small panic attacks because of the fundraiser–amidst all the famous deaths lately, a 94-year-old’s name trending on Twitter is not typically a fantastic sign.

Luckily, trending doesn’t always mean dying. So come on, y’all. Help this guy make sure a living legend holds onto that first, crucial adjective. Save Betty White from 2016.
