Pirates of the Caribbean Takes What They Can With Release Of Teaser For 5th Installment

Just when you thought the Kraken had finally been put to rest, it’s here to rear it’s ugly head again. I am, of course, talking about the now 5th installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

The franchise that started off incredibly strong (13 years ago! Holy cow) just got weaker and weaker as it went, but this ‘full reboot’ seems to be the hair of the dog, or hair from their back, needed for a revival. The newest installment ‘Dead Men Tell no Tales’ is still in continuity with the previous films and we seriously hope (cross our hearts) it breathes life back into this pentalogy.

To be totally honest, the trailer does look good, and the plot seems to be a revamp similar to the original film, which is definitely a positive. Take a look at the teaser:

So what do we know about the movie? Well as you just saw we have a new super-villain in the form of Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar. And he is clearly pissed…in a kooky way. Apparently Salazar, after surviving the Devil’s Triangle, has returned to claim vengeance upon Sparrow, who he blames for the death of his brother.

Although Depp and Bloom are not featured in the trailer, they’re definitely returning! Sparrow will (presumably) be needing good-guy Will Turner’s aide in seeking Poseidon’s trident to control the seas. Speaking of Mr. Turner, who will likely be sporting some sweet barnacles, rumors are that he and Elizabeth’s son is to join the pirate gang.

While the theory about Thwaites’s Henry hasn’t been confirmed, the actor did say:

“It’s about a young man who wants to reconnect with his father, Davy Jones. There’s a curse that prevents him from doing that. I think it’s about how he goes around that and tries to fix it and he has to save his dad.”

AKA, Maury has determined that Will Turner ‘you are the father!’

Other favorites will be returning as well, including McNally’s Gibbs and friend turned foe turned friend Geoffrey Rush’s really big hat toting Captain Barbossa.

There’s even a bright new female lead in the form of Kaya Scodelario. Her character, Carina Smyth, is a woman intent on becoming an astronomer who possibly parley-ed her way into becoming a part of Jack’s crew. Yo-ho indeed.

This ship is sailing into theaters in May 2017 so keep your eyes on the horizon.
