His name is Alexander Hamilton, and he’s coming to a theater near you.
Potentially. Someday. You can’t rush these things.
As I’m sure you’re well aware, Lin Manuel’s historical hip-hopera HAMILTON has been the hottest ticket on Broadway for over a year now. The musical’s finally expanding to other cities, so those not lucky enough to call the Big Apple home or vacation spot can get a chance to see the landmark show live. But now, it seems the inevitable has been confirmed, and Hollywood’s going to take the stage show to the big screen in a feature film calculated for maximum Oscar bait and/or consumer buckeroonies.
The writer/star himself, Lin-Manuel Miranda, has confirmed it–vaguely. When asked by the Hollywood Reporter about a potential movie adaptation, he gave a definite yes, but zero inkling of a timeline: “Yes! Who knows when? I don’t think I’m done with that role, by any stretch.”
Fair enough, considering the packed schedule Miranda’s surely balancing at the moment. At just 36, Miranda’s just one Oscar away from the coveted EGOT title–an Oscar he’s super likely to get for his songs in Disney’s MOANA. With a starring role in a MARY POPPINS reboot in the works and a IN THE HEIGHTS film adaptation also in the works, the dude’s got his plate full. But it sounds like he’s not going to “say no to this.”
