In Dire Need of Horror Movies for Friday the 13th? We’ve Got You.

Celine Ding July 12, 2018 August 9th, 2018

The superstition surrounding Friday the 13th may have emerged in the Middle Ages, “originating from the story of Jesus’ last supper and crucifixion” in which there were 13 individuals present, on the 13th of Nisan Maundy Thursday, the night before Jesus’ death on Good Friday. While Friday and the number 13 are both considered unlucky, there is no evidence that they are ominous when associated together, until the 19th century.

An early reference in English occurs in Henry Sutherland Edwards’ biography of the Italian composer Gioachino Rossini in 1869, who died on a Friday 13th. It is also possible that the publication of Thomas W. Lawson’s popular novel¬†Friday, the Thirteenth¬†in 1907 has contributed to the dissemination of this superstition. In the novel, an amoral broker takes advantage of the superstition to create a panic on Wall Street on a Friday the 13th.

Didn’t we learn something neat?

Now, as tomorrow–Friday the 13th–approaches, I’m sure some of you are getting ready to binge watch horror movies with the lights off, while hugging a giant bowl of popcorn or chips and wrapped in a thick blanket with the AC set to 66 degrees. (666, get it?) I know it is hard to find good horror movies out there, so as usual, I’m here to help.

1. What’s wrong with my house?

Every daredevil loves a good haunted house adventure. But no one likes it so much when it happens in real life. I’ve found a couple of horror movies about haunted houses in our exclusive collection Fright Night on YUYU. Get your flashlights fellas, we are going inside.

On the night of November 18, 1985, four dead bodies are found in a desolate home in the Roseville mountains. One man, Vasil, went missing, never to be found. Flash forward three decades: a cold case police unit goes searching for the horrific truth of what happened that night, and where Vasil is today.

A documentarian named Annie has roped her husband into a project that involves setting up cameras throughout their house. Complications arise when the cameras start showing that same couple in an alternate universe.

2. Shouldn’t have gone on that trip…

Have you ever gone on a trip with your besties or your significant other, only to find you guys fighting all the time over trivial things? Well, watch the following movies, you’ll feel a whole lot better about your trips.

A group of young friends, including former lovers Kim and Matt, married couple Dash and Amber, Baker and his girlfriend Lily, and Eve, who is by herself, gather in a remote cabin in the woods. (sounds familiar?) When playing a seemingly innocent supernatural game, they accidentally awaken an evil spirit. Will they fight off possession and murder?

Youths at a boot camp for deliquents find out that the myth of lumberjack Paul Bunyan is real when they incur the wrath of this 15-foot giant.

3. You may want to consider being a DINK.

Kids say the darnest things? Yes. After watching these movies, you’ll see why that’s the reason you shouldn’t have kids.

After a freak accident during her baby shower, Allison, a dedicated nurse, is rushed to the hospital. After the birth of her son, strange events emerge: illusions, vivid dreams, and unexplained killings.

Following the tragic loss of their daughter and other family members, a couple is forced to move to the countryside to adopt their little niece. Unfortunately to them, things are about to get a lot creepier.

If you haven’t seen anything you like yet, fear not. We have a lot more horror movies here on yuyu.
