Mike Leavitt…we’d like to thank you.
Because he just made one of the most incredible collections of film-referenced art we have literally ever seen.
An American visual artist, and a self-proclaimed lover of cinema, Leavitt has carved caricatures of over ten famous directors…out of wood. And if that isn’t as amazing as it sounds then listen up, each director has been transfigured into a morphing of his (or her) most iconic characters from the screen. Taking elements like a leg from one character, the head of the director, and the clothes of another, then sprinkling the image with accessories that are taken from their famous sets or locations all combine for incredibly pleasing and reference-laden figures.
All figures are 1:4 in scale, and 18 inches tall or wide, sculpted from scratch in wood and polymer clay. “Art and film treat my pain. They’re magic. They trick me into remembering why this world is so damn beautiful,”
