Charlie Heaton is denied entry into the U.S. over cocaine charges

Charlie Heaton, known for playing Jonathan Byers on Netflix’s “Stranger Things”, was denied entry into the U.S. last week after trace amounts of cocaine were found in his luggage.

There was a lot of confusion surrounding the situation, since it was unclear whether he had been arrested or not. However, Associated Press reported that the amount was not enough to warrant charges. Heaton, a British citizen, was detained at LAX and returned to the United Kingdom.

Jaime Ruiz, branch chief of strategic media engagement for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, explained the situation to The Hollywood Reporter: “Foreign nationals may be inadmissible due to the commission of a crime involving drug possession.”

Though he was not arrested, the actor missed the Stranger Things 2 red carpet premiere. He released a statement a few days after news broke.

“My planned travel to the U.S. last week was affected by an issue at U.S. immigration, and I am working to rectify it as soon as possible,” he told PEOPLE. “I’m sorry to all the fans and my Stranger Things family for missing the premiere. We are all so proud of this season and I would never want this story to negatively impact the show.”

Most recently, Charlie had been rumored to be dating his “Stranger Things” co-star, Natalia Dyer. The actors had been spotted holding hands in public, though they both refused to comment on the matter.

The actor has also made headlines this week after the Daily Mail reported he has a 3 year-old son with ex-bandmate Akiko Matsuura. It’s unclear why this news is coming out now and fans are reacting all over Twitter. That said, neither Charlie nor Akiko have released any personal statements about the reports, so it’s best to keep speculation to a minimum.
