Okay, I know you all were working on cutting out your carbs to lose weight. But turns out, you should just be cutting out food entirely and living on cosmic energy instead!
Here’s our recipe for a good, filling snack on this diet: First start with one ounce of good vibes, mix in whatever crystals you have lying around, and let it all cook with the rays of the sun.
Sounds good doesn’t it?
Legit though, some people are basically doing this.
Husband and wife Akahi Ricardo, 36, and Camila Castilo, 34, are self-identified “Breatharians.” They claim to have subsisted mostly on the rays of the sun for the past 9 years. Castillo claimed to have gone without food during her entire first pregnancy, saying she “fully lived on light” and consumed no food.
Okay, okay, yeah we’re skeptical. And nutritionist Tanya Zuckerbrot confirms that yes, you would indeed lose muscle mass and eventually die without food.
Zuckerbrot told the New York Post, “(I)t’s a faulty premise that they could survive off the sun. If you don’t provide your body with caloric intake, your body will begin to break down.” Yep, we could’ve told you that.
So this begs the question, what are these people looking for in claiming to be “Breatharians?” Is it some strange cult? Do they want to be featured in the news? Are they actually just delusional? Either way, very few people are convinced by their claims to have barely eaten for 9 years.
So we did a bit of research on these claims. Just to see if it has some history. And guess what! Apparently Breatharianism has been around for centuries! It has been called “fasting,” and sometimes “anorexia.”
