People have been feigning for an Assassin’s Creed movie for years now.
But like…years and years and years.
Just this summer fans got their first taste of a granted wish in the form of a few teasers released intermittently. But now, everyone can stop guessing and check out a full-length “trailer 2” which answers almost all your questions about the film (as modern trailers love to do.) For fans of the video game, this is gonna be a big deal. For everyone else…maybe not.
So yes, it does look like everything we’ve seen before. But for those of us who recognize the tropes from the actual video game (and not film cliches) then it’s pretty exciting. The city looks exactly like the video game, adding the eagle was an amazing touch, and seeing the tops of those roofs will have all veterans at the edge of their seat. The present day aspect looks like the spot where they’ll deviate from the source visuals (the animus looks crazy different for example) and splice in their own Hollywood version.
For gamers, I think the most interesting question will be whether or not they include the “apple of eden” and the supernatural elements that helped take the first few games into highly original and mysterious places.
For cinephiles, the most intriguing bit has got to be the stellar triangle of artists holding this film together: Director Justin Kurzel, along wih Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, all of whom previously collaborated on Macbeth, which did pretty well with critics.
Gonna be there for opening night?
20th Century Fox will release “Assassin’s Creed” on December 21.
