Italian makeup artist Luca Luce began his career beautifying television actors, but he had found a particular interest in drawing 3D art at a young age.
Using eyeliner, Aquacolor, and lip pencils, Luce creates mind-bending illusions on the palm of his left hand.
Not only is he using human skin as a canvas, which is already quite difficult if you’re trying to draw perfect lines, but he’s using a pretty small surface. You can imagine how frustrating it is to draw realistically and include tons of detail and shading when the canvas you have to work on is so small.
His work ranges from cute-
One of his favorite tricks to pull off is taking chunks out of his hands- perfectly matching the background in order to create the illusion that a piece of his hand got taken out.
Luce has mastered the art of 3D surrealism- now it typically only takes him about 30 minutes to an hour to complete one of his signature palm drawings.
He draws alot of inspiration from horror movies:
It’s always fun when a work of art can make you do a double take.
While TV makeup is his full-time job, Luca Luce continues the palm portraits as a hobby for his own enjoyment. He has said that he wanted to make sure nobody else had done it before he started. And as far as we know, his art is one of a kind.
Now all we need is another season of Skin Wars, so that Luce can compete in the often under-appreciated art of body painting with other talented folks. Maybe he’ll be the first contestant to forego the airbrush and exclusively use eyeliner pencils.
