The Belcher family may have its ups and downs, but Bob’s Burgers, the animated series that has been running on Fox since 2011, has seen nothing but success. After taking home its first Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Series in 2014 and its second this year, the show is headed for theaters with a feature film to be released by 20th Century Fox on July 17, 2020. Get ready to see some small chins on the big screen!
Those chins belong to the protagonists of Bob’s Burgers: the hapless but resilient Belcher family and the community of their small seaside town. The show follows deadpan burger dad Bob (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin), cheery Linda (John Roberts), and their three children—precocious Louise (Kristen Schaal), goofy Gene (Eugene Mirman), and awkwardly pubescent Tina (Dan Mintz)—as they deal with school and restaurant drama that is anything but mundane.
The show is also known for its ridiculously catchy musical interludes, which spawned a compilation featuring some of the biggest names in indie rock, including St. Vincent and The National.
So what can we expect from the feature-length version of Bob’s Burgers? A little bit of everything, according to Loren Bouchard, the show’s creator, who gave an excited comment about the high expectations the movie has earned.
“We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show, “ he said. “We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s – but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?”
